BOOK CLUB

All teens are welcome at Book Club.

TEEN ADVISORY GROUP (TAG)

Next Meeting :  To Be Announced

Meet in the young adult area

TAG is the Teen Advisory Group at New Ulm Public Library. TAG is open to all teens in the New Ulm area, including 12-year-olds who will be turning 13 during the current school year.

TAG has many purposes. First and foremost, it was created to encourage teens to be involved in the library. TAG members will assist the Programming Librarian with developing activities and projects for teens to do. TAG will also assist in choosing new materials for the Young Adult collection. Having teens involved in library programming and collection development will make teen services at New Ulm Public Library more vibrant and viable.

TAG meets once a month.  Meetings usually run about one hour.

What has TAG done?

  • We held a Teen Poetry Night.  Teens were invited to recite their own poetry or that of their favorite poets.

  • We sponsored a T-Shirt Transformation night when we invited teens to bring old t-shirts, and we transformed them by cutting and stitching new designs.

  • We have organized a book club.  If you want to be part of it, let us know, or just show up at our next gathering!

Are you between the ages of 12 and 19?  Do you want to be part of something special?  Do you enjoy reading?  Do you enjoy sharing ideas with others?  Do you enjoy planning activities?  If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then you should join TAG.

PAINTINGS ON DISPLAY

To celebrate the new Young Adult area at the New Ulm Public Library, four painting designs were chosen by TAG and were painted by the designers and their fellow students at the Riverbend Area Learning Center in New Ulm.

The project started as an art assignment for Instructor Pat Engen at Riverbend.  The library, meanwhile, had been contemplating painting a mural in its new teen area, so when Pat approached the library about collaborating, the library jumped at the chance. Students at Riverbend painted their original designs using different color schemes, with TAG making color suggestions.  Back at Riverbend, designs chosen for the paintings were enlarged onto 36” x 48” canvases.  Classmates chipped in to sketch the design, mix paint, and block in sections with color.

The artwork was unveiled at the library during the Open House on January 21, 2007.  The paintings will be on display for two years, after which time another local student art group will be encouraged to display its work.
