Who can participate?
The NUPL Summer Reading Program is open to
anyone from ages 1 to 13 who wants to read and have
fun. The goal for successful completion of this
program is for each participant to read for at least
30 minutes (or be read to for about 20 minutes) on
25 different days between June 1 and August 6.
|
How it works.
Participating is easy. Here’s how:
STEP 1.
Come to the Library and fill out a registration
form.
STEP 2.
You will receive a “Be Creative” bookmark.
STEP 3.
For each day that you read for at least 30
minutes (or listen to someone read to you for about 20
minutes), you fill in one paint palette on your bookmark.
Readers can read books on their own at an appropriate level.
Read-to-Me’s will listen to books read by a parent or other
reader.
STEP 4.
After filling in 5 paint palettes on the
bookmark, bring it back to the Library. Receive a special
prize when you reach the 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 day mark.
We’ll keep track of your total number of days and make sure
that you receive your prizes.|
STEP 6.
When you have reached the 25 day goal, you will
become eligible to enter our drawing to win 1 of our 10
grand prizes.
The grand prize drawing will take place at our SRP Finale on
Thursday, August 6 which is the final day of the 2009 Summer
Reading Program.

Creative Thinkers
Our bulletin board features 12 photos of people who
are well-known for being creative. Your task is to
identify each person. To do this, you must use the
special code provided. Ask for a form to use to take
part in this
activity. Everyone who completes this activity
correctly will win a prize.
Crafty Creations
Our craft table is set up so that you can create a
fantastic masterpiece each week. Just ask for
instructions and materials at the Children’s desk.
Create and then take your creation home with you to
impress family and friends.
Activity Sheets
Solve a crossword puzzle, find the hidden words,
connect the dots, or color the pages. These and many
more fun and challenging activity sheets will be
available at the Library every day all summer.
Return a completed activity sheet and earn a small
prize for that week.
Got Art?
If you are in the library and feel like expressing
yourself in an artistic way, we invite you to
contribute to our wall of art. Choose a frame and be
creative. Please ask for special markers at the
Children’s desk.
Art Mystery
Someone has stolen 12 famous paintings from our
library and is hiding them in various stores in New
Ulm. Your task is to solve the mystery by locating
the paintings. Ask for an “Art Mystery” entry
form. Look for those paintings in the windows of
downtown stores. All who find and correctly identify
the locations of these paintings will earn a prize.
Reading Is a Fine Art Challenge
If you have completed the 25 days of reading and
want even more of a challenge, ask the librarian
