New Ulm Public Library now brings you
downloadable audio books (e-books) from NetLibrary!
Come into the library and have the staff help you create an account
so you can
begin to download any number of e-book titles to your wireless laptop or your home
computer and read at your leisure.
How it works:
Create a free NetLibrary account by visiting the New Ulm Public
Library. To create an account
from a library computer, click on the NetLibrary icon or from the
Internet, simply go to
NetLibrary at www.netlibrary.com
Click on the "Create a Free Account" link in the upper
right-hand corner of the screen.
Once you have established an account with a user name and password,
you can access the
NetLibrary e-audio book collection at any time, anywhere there is an
Internet connection.
Use NetLibrary’s basic or advanced search tools to find the e-audio
book you want to download.
Once you have decided on a title to download to your personal PC or
laptop, choose CD Quality or Radio Quality. CD Quality offers high
fidelity playback for patrons with high-speed Internet access. You
must use CD Quality to download if you plan to transfer the file to
a portable media player.
Radio Quality provides smaller files with shorter download times,
but these files cannot be transferred to a portable media player.
You WILL NOT be able to burn a disc from the download or transfer
the download to the Internet.
When you play the file for the first time, you will be re-connected
to NetLibrary to acquire a license. Log in with your NetLibrary
Username and Password. The license will be downloaded automatically
and playback will begin. Each downloaded audio e-book will require
its own license, and this license must be acquired before you
transfer to a portable media player.
Things to know:
· You may check out up to 10 audio e-books at one time.
· The file of checked out books is active for three weeks (21 days)
· After the check out period expires (21 days), the license will
automatically expire.
If you wish you can renew the license only once during the three
weeks without downloading again.
· Library computers cannot be used to download and transfer audio
e-books. We cannot accommodate the transfer of these files to
personal portable media players due to
the wide variety of software required.
· Personal wireless laptops may be used to download and transfer
audio e-books in the library.
· Downloadable audio e-books are WMA files and are only compatible
with Windows
Media Players 9 and above. This service is not compatible with Apple
products, including the iPod.
